Using Charley Bars to Keep Your Home Secure

If you are worried about intruders breaking into your home, Charlie bar security can ease your mind. Also spelled charley bar, these are thin bars that are joined to a door frame and keep it from being opened.

Installation

The process has many steps but they are pretty straightforward. Start by taking out the cap off the bar. Next you position the hinge bracket and put the tubular bar in the hinge bracket slot. This should make it flush to the frame. Next you have to measure about an eighth inch from the interior panel door. Cut the bar at the mark you measured.

Now put the cap you removed on the end you cut up. Set the bracket hinge on the frame with the clamp at the top. The bar slot will be down at the bottom. Position the bar so you will be able to swing it freely. Mark areas for the mounting holes and drill 1/8 inch holes. After the bracket and holes are aligned, secure them with the screws that come with the Charlie bar kit.
